Reef Cottage was built in 1887 and was originally a barrister's office, the old office vault has been turned in to an en suite for one of the bedrooms. There is a guest lounge, kitchen, and garden. Theatre Royal Hotel re-opened on 24 November 2012 following a major refurbishment. The hotel offers quality accommodation in rooms named after Kumara personalities from yesteryear. The King Dick (Richard Seddon) room honours the one time Kumara mayor and NZ Prime Minister, he no doubt would have appreciated the impressive bedside lamps.
